Bio-Ethics: Pivotal Moment?
Philosophy Thought Leadership Lecture Series
Throughout history, societies have faced high-stakes moral issues – on life, autonomy, and human rights. The abortion debate became deeply polarized, with entrenched camps battling over fundamental premises. Will bio-ethics follow the same divisive path, or can we find another way forward? Are we on the brink of redefining what it means to be human?
Gene-editing technology, once the realm of science fiction, is now a reality. CRISPR and other genetic technologies are raising profound questions: Should we edit future generations? What principles should guide us? Who gets to decide?
This month, Russell DiSilvestro, Professor and Philosophy Department Chair, California State University, Sacramento will explore how we can acknowledge deep disagreements while simultaneously seeking deep engagement, without falling into the trap of polarization.
