Member-Led Discussion Group
This month in our member-led discussion group we will explore a question that
may generate uncomfortable answers: When do we call in the philosophers?
We will organize our exploration within a series of 3 images:
Albert Einstein – beloved scientist and philosopher of the atomic age
Charlie Chaplin – comedic everyman entangled in machinery of modern times
Sam Altman – founder of OpenAI and symbol of our present existential moment
Our speaker and discussion leader is Paul Wright PhD, who spent his entire career
at the cutting edge of science as Professor of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon, NYU,
and UC Berkeley. Paul will explore the value and role of philosophy in science.
