Pragmatism: How Meaning Grows
Marin Philosophical Society – 1/19 – San Rafael
Michael Truncale, MPS member, photographer, and philosophical thinker, is passionate about Charles Sanders Peirce, a founding father of pragmatism - a uniquely American philosophy developed in the late nineteenth century. Michael credits Peirce with opening his eyes to a new way of thinking that unites science, art, and meaning. He brings this perspective to his work as a photographer and writer, where he explores the philosophy of photography, creativity, perception, and meaning through his Substack portal, photographicproof.
Michael is deeply interested in how meaning actually forms—from perception and experience to shared understanding. His presentation and the ensuing discussion will invite us to explore how ideas earn their significance through use, correction, and time, and how this approach can support a life lived thoughtfully and fully.
